The Maui wildfire on August 8, 2023, near Olinda Road in Kula caused a devastating impact on homeowners, business owners, tourists, and families alike. Many homes and residences were burned down, along with local shops and business, showing the urgent need of assistance during this crisis. The fire consumed approximately 1,000 acres of lands, claimed the lives of 115 people, and  left an estimated 1,000 people injured and trapped in the fire.

In a heartwarming display of unity and compassion, the congregation of St. Peter's Church came together on Saturday, September 30, 2023, to create and distribute care packages for the victims of the Maui wildfire. This charitable endeavor was a shining example of the unwavering commitment of the church community to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

The event, led by the energetic and dedicated Youth Group of St. Peter's Church, witnessed an outpouring of support from the entire congregation. Volunteers worked tirelessly to assemble 100 care packages, each containing a carefully curated selection of essential items donated by members, such as soap, combs, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, and hand towels. The church community not only contributed their time and effort but also opened their hearts to monetary donations. It was a evening filled with purpose, compassion, and a shared sense of responsibility.

To make this charitable effort possible, St. Peter's Youth Group collaborated with 'Convoy of Hope,' (https://convoyofhope.org/), a faith-based nonprofit humanitarian organization whose driving passion is to feed the world and deliver hope when it is needed most. Shortly after the event, the packages were sent to 'Convoy of Hope'.

During the event, the generosity of the local community was further highlighted when Northlake Walmart stepped forward with a significant donation of USD 1,000 to the St. Peter's Youth Group. Mikel Simo, the Store Manager, and Mayuri Patel, the Staff Pharmacist, presented the check, symbolizing Walmart's recognition and support of the church's community-driven initiatives. St. Peter's Youth Group extends its heartfelt gratitude to Walmart for acknowledging and valuing our efforts in the community. The Youth Group is encouraged to continue taking leaps forward not only  in providing relief efforts to places that need it most, but also fullfilling their duty to God.
