The youth groups from local Chicago-land Jacobite churches sponsored a one day service project on November 22nd, 2014.
The youth spent the day serving at Pacific Garden Mission in the South Loop section of Chicago. Pacific Garden mission is a homeless shelter serving more than 700 people a day! Everyday workers at the mission wash, clean, and prepare the beds needed overnight - as well as prepare the meals! But, that is only part of the work, it is also a place of refuge and transformation offering hope in Christ.
Our youth group helped with preparing 4 rooms full of bunk beds. It was tiring work, but well worth the strain. You can see some of the pictures of the work above.
They had an opportunity to tour the facility and get a small glimpse of the struggles of those who come there. It is a somber reminder of many things! It reminded us to not get selfishly caught up in "ourselves", but to serve those around us. It reminded us to be really thankful in this season of thanksgiving. It reminded us of the joy and fellowship found in service.
It was a good day to serve :)!
Mathew 25:37-40 Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’
