Great Lent / Evening Prayer
Great Lent (2/15/2010 - 4/4/2010)
This year, the Great Lent starts Feb. 15, 2010! Every year, Orthodox Churches around the world enter a time of special prayer and dedication in the months before the celebration of our Lord's Resurrection, aka Easter. The time of the Great Lent is determined by the date of Easter. The Great Lent starts 48 days before Easter and concludes with the feast of the Resurrection. In the Malankara Syrian Orthodox churches, the date of Easter is based off of the Gregorian calendar; which, this year is April 4. In the other Syrian Orthodox Churches, the date of Easter is based off of the Julian calendar, which this year also happens to be April 4.
You can find out more about the Great Lent at the SOR site, here.
