About Omalloor Bava
His name is Mor Ignatios Elias III. He was the patriarch of our church from 1917 to his death on Febuary 13, 1932. Some of the highlights of his life include:
- Providing refuge to Armenian and Syriac Christians in the monastery during the Turkish massacres
- Establishing a church & printing press in Jerusalem
- Becoming Patriarch of the Syriac Church
- Traveling to India to help reconcile the schism (although he was in ill-health and was not advised to go)
While in India, he died and was buried there. He is the only Patriarch to be buried in India. On his memorial day, many people travel from afar to visit his tomb.
