Kanjirakkattu Varkey Varghese (“Thankachen”), 74, passed on March 29, 2020, at his home in Darien, Illinois. His funeral service will be held on April 1, 2020, at St. Peter’s Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church, Northlake, Illinois followed by internment.
Mr. Varghese was born on December 29, 1945, in Kavumbhagam, Thiruvalla to KV and Mariamma Varkey. He attended high school at MGM High School and graduated from Mar Thoma College. During his time at Mar Thoma College, he played soccer and was a state-level athlete. He was a member of St. John's Cathedral in India.
He married Grace Varghese on October 3, 1977. They raised one daughter (Jancy) and one son (Jaison).
Mr. Varghese moved to the United States in 1978. He worked at General Telephone and Electronics Corporation (GTE) for approximately 15 years and retired at the age of 65 in 2011. He was heavily involved in the church and in his spare time he enjoyed soccer, gardening, and spending time with his family.
Mr. Varghese is survived by his two sisters, Saramma Matthew and Molly Samuel, his wife, Grace, his son, Jaison, his daughter, Jancy, her husband, Renjan, and their children, Elisha, Grace, Ezra, Gabriel and Apollos.

Church Service Information
Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic crisis all church related services including the funeral will be restricted to immediate family only. (Gathering restriction of 10 people or more are being enforced by Funeral Home staff.) Understanding the hardship of this, the church streamed the services.
