Grace Varghese (Thankamma), 75, passed on March 26, 2021 at her home in Darien, IL. Her funeral service will be held on March 30, 2021 at St. Peter’s Syriac Orthodox Church, Northlake, Illinois followed by internment.
Mrs. Varghese was born on February 15, 1946 in Ayroor, Pathanamthitta District, Kerala to Malayil Mathew & Aleyamma Itty. She attended primary school at Ayroor M.T.H.S.and attended high school at S.V.H.S., Pullad. She finished her Nursing Diploma from Tiruvalla Medical Mission Hospital.
She started her Nursing career with Bokaro General Hospital, Bokaro India, in 1972. In 1975 she took a job with Fahaheel Maternity Hospital in Kuwait. She immigrated to the United States in 1976.
She got married to K.V. Varghese on October 3, 1977. They raised two children, Jancy (daughter) & Jaison (son).
Mrs. Varghese worked as a Registered Nurse in the Chicago Area, first at St. Joseph Hospital in the city and then at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park where she retired in 2011. She taught Sunday School and was actively involved in church activities.
Mrs. Varghese is survived by her sister Aleyamma Mathew and two brothers; Malayil M. Mathai (Indiana) and Malayil M. Thomas (Chicago), her son, Jaison, her daughter, Jancy, her husband, Renjan, and their children, Elisha, Grace, Ezra, Gabriel and Apollos.
